Career Goals after MMB
When starting my Bachelor's in Microbiology, I intended to pursue a PhD in Microbiology and become a laboratory researcher. After completing some microbiology coursework and academic research experiences, I realized that while fascinated by applied science, I was more interested in a role outside the lab. Since coming to NC State, I have found a passion for technology commercialization. My overarching career goals are therefore to stay in close contact with a wide range of scientific developments while assisting with bringing technologies to market, where they can make a positive impact. There are many avenues to achieve this, including working in business development or consulting within the biotech industry, my most likely career paths. I could also envision working in technology evaluation or in an advisory role to startups or entrepreneurs at a university research commercialization office, economic development agency, or venture capital firm.
